2012 RB Rankings

Some RB rankings. I usually don’t even use rankings for RBs, I just target my favorite studs, upside runners, and sleepers.

Ben Roethlisberger is Dumb.
The Steelers QB is having a pretty hard time learning new offensive coordinator Todd Haley’s playbook. Word is Haley wants to keep Big Ben in the pocket more and focus on getting the run game back to where it used to be. My guess is that it won’t be happening this season.

Cam Newton -

Newton failed to throw over 300 yards in any game after Carolina’s bye week last year. He only surpassed the 215 yard passing mark twice in the last eight games of the season. Opposing defenses started to shut down Newton’s pass game later in the season and forced him to run the ball. Teams will have a better idea of how to contain Newton after studying his 2011 game play. Newton will most likely lose the majority of his rushing touchdowns and short yardage work to recently acquired Mike Tolbert, who averaged 9.5 touchdowns in the past two years as a goal line back with San Diego. The Panthers most likely will use Tolbert instead of Newton at the goal line because they will not want to take a chance and have their franchise quarterback seriously injured.

Glad to see I wasn’t the only one who noticed those declining passing numbers.

Ouch! Hakeem Nicks has to undergo surgery on Friday to insert a screw into a broken bone in his foot. Injury happened during Giants OTAs and he’s estimated to miss about 12 weeks.

fftips:

Break Out WR: Greg Little. I loved this guy last year as a rookie. Like many rookies, he played pretty well, but was not really a reliable fantasy starter. That could easily change this year, especially if the strong-armed Brandon Weeden wins the starting QB spot. Top rookie RB prospect Trent Richardson will be keeping the D in the box as the Browns pound it, which could open up many big plays for Little.

Weeden and Richardson add instant offense for the Browns.

Rookie Stephen Hill is already lining up as the starter opposite Holmes in Jets camp.

Report: Mike Wallace won’t sign free agent tender ‘until he has to’
The Pittsburgh Steelers tagged wide receiver Mike Wallace (#17) in February with a first round tender.  A tender tag differs from a franchise tag in a few ways, but one of the main ways is that a tender tag allows a player to continue to negotiate with other teams. It’s a gamble that has so far paid off for the Steelers, because no other team has made the speedy Wallace an offer yet. Result: a very unhappy Wallace. The tender tag carries with it a $2.7 million dollar payday for Wallace; while a franchise tag would have meant about $9.5 million. Both the franchise and tender tags are good for one year (if signed by player). But like most players, Wallace is looking for a longer deal and a bigger payout for his services. In 2011, Wallace had 72 receptions for 1,193 yards and 8 touchdowns. He has until June 15th to sign his tender offer. If he does not sign the Steelers can cut the offer to as little as $577,000. Hopefully Wallace and his agent can do the math!
